8 Wrestlers Who DESTROYED Their Own Aura

On 24 February 2011, WWE landed a blockbuster acquisition, signing Luis 'Místico' Aldirve, whom they rebranded Sin Cara.

A certified megastar, Místico was a regular sell-out draw in Arena Mexico, which holds a capacity of 16,500. In 2006, he outvoted John Cena and Tito Ortiz, two men at the peak of their physical performance, to win the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Best Box Office Draw award. Other winners in the category have included 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and The Rock circa Attitude Era, peak Kenta Kobashi, and, in 2021, pre-Brawl Out CM Punk.

Místico was mint.

Was.

As Sin Cara, Místico was doomed. He botched his stunning entrance. It wasn't a pristine concept, admittedly, as WWE production had to cut away from Cara's close-up to a wide-angle shot, hiding the trampoline that was to boost him into the ring. It did boost him, but Cara's momentum faulted him. He fell onto the ropes, crash-landed in the ring, and had to carry on with his post-match attack of Sheamus.

WWE knew in the first twenty seconds of Sin Cara being on WWE television that he wasn't going to be the breakthrough star they had hoped.

"Oh, man!", Michael Cole exclaimed.

Oh man indeed.
