Liger has been one of pro wrestling's most innovative trailblazers ever since he debuted in the 80s, and not only is he still going, but he's still getting gigs with WWE, who had him appear at an NXT TakeOver event just last year.

Like his contemporary Mutoh, the Shooting Star was one of the first Japanese wrestlers to make it Stateside, where he was a regular cross-over competitor in WCW's cruiserweight and light heavyweight divisions, coming up against the likes of Rey Mysterio, Dean Malenko and Juventude Guerrera.

Liger turned 50 two years ago and remains a sought after booking on the American independent scene - evidence, if it were needed, of his enduring popularity.
