9 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Apr 22)
1. Sammy & Darby Crush It Again
While not on the same level as their blistering Revolution clash, Sammy Guevara vs. Darby Allin was comfortably the best thing on Dynamite and the best possible way to start the show.
Preceded by promos from both men, it saw the wrestlers call back to the pay-per-view with Guevara diving out of the ring while Darby entered, reversing their Revolution roles. A ladder was brought into play early on and it didn't break as Sammy leapt onto Allin with a top rope splash. That's the kind of insanity we expect from these two but they went down an entirely different route after the break. Rather than going all-out, the duo got attritional. Darby took one of Sammy's boots off to brutalise his foot and ankle, both men had their faces bloodied, and the striking hit harder than you'd expect from wrestlers of their size.
The explosiveness did come, but not until later on, and it was the Last Supper roll-up, not a high spot, that finished it off. Darby scored another big win over his greatest AEW rival by locking Sammy in the pseudo-submission to advance towards Cody.
Is Allin about to score that elusive victory over 'The American Nightmare' in round two? Things seem to be trending in that direction.
