As it stands, this month’s Royal Rumble PPV will see Adam Pearce challenging for Roman Reigns’ WWE Universal Championship.

In one “last-ditch” effort, Pearce has taken to Twitter to plead with the Head of Table to call the match off.

Last week’s episode of SmackDown saw the WWE Official wrestle his first match in six years. A former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Adam Pearce found himself forced into a gauntlet match to declare the #1 contender for Reigns’ title – with Roman and his cousin Jey Uso fixing it so that “Scrap Daddy” Pearce emerged victorious in that bout.

As such, 31 January will see Pearce vs. Reigns.

Of course, as soon as Adam Pearce was declared the winner of that gauntlet match, many instantly presumed that we’d get some sort of change-up in the weeks leading to the Rumble, and that Pearce would be replaced by A.N. Other challenger.

Kevin Owens was the early favourite to face Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble, although the events of last week’s SmackDown certainly lean towards Shinsuke Nakamura being in with a shout of replacing Adam Pearce – with Nakamura having been the clear standout of the aforementioned gauntlet match.
