AEW Books Surprising Heel Turn On Rampage

It remains to be seen if this will be a full-time thing, but...new AEW heel?

Athena might've just turned heel on this week's episode of AEW Rampage.

The one-time Ember Moon has been "showing some disrespect" after matches recently. On Friday, Madison Rayne stepped up to wrestle her one-on-one and (in theory) beat some respect into the ex-WWE star. Instead, Athena won the bout in less than three minutes then attacked referee Aubrey Edwards.

That, rather predictably, drew boos from the audience - Aubrey has always been a beloved figure amongst hardcore All Elite fans, so it was easy heat for Athena to target her. The attack didn't last long though, because Mercedes Martinez returned to rush out and make the save for Edwards.

Throughout, Athena had a big smile on her face.

AEW life hasn't exactly been plain sailing for Athena since making the jump from WWE. She was booked as possible kryptonite for unbeaten TBS Champ Jade Cargill, but that went nowhere once Jade comprehensively hammered Athena in less than five minutes back at All Out.

A heel turn may be her best bet. However, AEW's women's division is pretty heel heavy, so Athena might still struggle for house room.
