AEW Debutant Emerges As Legitimate Draw
Not a huge surprise for anyone who's followed his career, BUT...
CMLL star Mistico appears to have had a tangible impact on AEW's ticket sales this week.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted on Tuesday that since Mistico's AEW debut with Rocky Romero was announced for Friday's Rampage show, over 2,100 additional tickets had been shifted. The match was taped last night in Rosenberg, Texas.
Meltzer stated, too, that this would have been partly down to AEW dropping ticket prices ahead of the event, which is a weekly practice for Tony Khan's group. Nonetheless, the increase is notable.
Meltzer posted on X:
As of this morning, AEW's show tonight has moved well over 2,100 tickets since the announcement of Mistico. Some of this is lowering prices but every company lowers prices if not sold out at the end. This is a noteworthy number but also notable Mistico's first AEW appearance and being in Houston is a one time thing.
Mistico, 40, is not only regarded as one of the best wrestlers in Mexico, but one of the country's biggest draws, to the extent that he was named the Wrestling Observer's Best Box Office Draw in 2006, as well as the Best Box Office Draw of the Decade for the 2000s, beating out the likes of John Cena and Brock Lesnar.
