AEW Trios Championships FINALLY Coming Soon?
Backstage latest on AEW's long-awaited Trios Titles.
The long-discussed AEW Trios Championships are finally on the verge of becoming a reality.
Dave Meltzer writes in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW president and founder Tony Khan has had the physical belts made, meaning it is only a matter of time before the promotion introduces the division.
While talk of what would effectively be a six-person tag team division has existed since AEW formed in 2019, speculation escalated in 2020, when groups like Death Triangle started coming together and making inroads up the card. Things were then held up at the COVID-19 pandemic's onset that March, with concrete updates thin on the ground since then.
Initially, it was believed that AEW was waiting for Kenny Omega's return from injury before introducing the Championships. The former AEW World Champion would have made a natural partner for The Young Bucks, potentially against Adam Cole and reDRagon, should the ongoing Undisputed Elite storyline program continue. Whether or not Kenny's recovery is still a factor is currently unclear.
Nonetheless, with groups like the aforementioned trios, House Of Black, Jurassic Express and Christian Cage, Blackpool Combat Club, and more on the books, AEW would have no trouble filling the division.
