AEW's Darby Allin Opens Up About Comparisons To Sting: "It's Flattering"
What AEW's Darby Allin really thinks of comparisons to WCW legend Sting.
Darby Allin is one of the fastest rising stars in the world of wrestling and has now secured a top spot in AEW. The new TNT Champion has often been compared to a young version of Sting, based on his look, underdog spirit, and of course, his attitude.
In a recent interview with TV Insider (via WrestleTalk) Darby decided to address these comparisons:
"My face paint just comes from my real life. That’s not really a character thing I try to rip off of anybody. I’ve always just liked the dark stuff. I’ve always been a fan of the gothic aesthetic. Just weird stuff. I’m flattered by [the comparison], it’s cool, but it’s definitely not what I’m thinking about while I’m doing it.”
Darby scored a huge win against Cody Rhodes at Full Gear and has promised to defend the title with his body and soul. Rumours have ran rampant about Sting possibly joining AEW over the past few months yet, but the Icon hasn't jumped ship yet.
It's worth mentioning that WWE stopped selling any merchandise related to the Hall of Famer. Perhaps Sting and Tony Khan are just waiting for the perfect moment to shock fans?
A Sting return on TNT after nearly 20 years would be beautifully poetic.
