Kenny Omega has undergone surgery as his recovery from diverticulitis continues.

Per Fightful Select, Omega went under the knife in New York on 16 May, having not wrestled for AEW since 5 December 2023. A "lengthy recovery" is now expected for Omega - and the promotion doesn't have any creative plans for him currently.

Omega returned to AEW television for the first time in five months on the 1 May episode of Dynamite. There, he spoke openly about his diverticulitis battle, saying he was lucky to be alive while confirming the need for surgery. Kenny was then attacked by former allies The Elite, preceding him announcing an Anarchy in the Arena match for Double or Nothing 2024 during the following Dynamite.

The Young Bucks, Jack Perry, and Kazuchika Okada face an AEW home team of FTR, Darby Allin, and Bryan Danielson at this Sunday's DoN pay-per-view.

Omega's current spell on the sidelines is his second long-term absence since AEW's 2019 formation. Previously, he had been sidelined due to myriad injuries and health issues between November 2021 and August 2022, completely unrelated to his current fight with diverticulitis.
