AEW's Kris Statlander Getting New Gimmick?

Is Kris Statlander stepping away from 'The Galaxy's Greatest Alien'?

If last night's episode of AEW Dynamite is anything to go by, Kris Statlander may be on the verge of being repackaging.

The show featured a brief but important 14-second clip featuring the Best Friends affiliate, who was shown gazing into her mirror between clips highlighting recent failures. This came after stablemates Chuck Taylor and Wheeler Yuta's match with Jon Moxley. Statlander was nowhere to be found during that bout, with only Trent Beretta, Orange Cassidy, and Danhausen accompanying Taylor and Yuta.

Statlander's potential reinvention comes following a loss to Leyla Hirsch at Revolution 2022.

The 26-year-old's 'Galaxy's Greatest Alien' gimmick goes back to her indie days. Despite the nickname, the character never goes full sci-fi. Statlander always operates within the bounds of reality (she boops noses rather than riding a flying saucer to the ring), though symbolically removing her contact lenses and wiping her face paint off in the video could be interpreted as a sign that the character has gone as far as it can.

Statlander has been signed to AEW since December 2019, though she debuted for the company the previous month. She is currently sitting on a 3-3 win/loss record in 2022.
