Could Khan's impending major announcement be the purchase of ROH?

With Tony Khan having spent the past two weeks hyping a "major" announcement, what if said announcement pertains to the purchase of Ring of Honor? That's a topic that Dave Meltzer discussed during the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, with Meltzer speculating over what interest Khan would have in buying ROH.

Dave proclaimed how it would make zero sense for the AEW President to buy ROH with a view to running it as a promotion. However, Meltzer mentioned how it would be far more logical for Khan to buy ROH for the purpose of utilising the Ring of Honor tape library.

With streaming services doing big business these days, having the ROH archives at their disposal would make any form of AEW streaming service extensively more appealing due to the sheer volume of content it offers up.

Of course, so many of AEW's biggest stars spent notable periods of their careers in Ring of Honor. Names such as Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Adam Cole, reDRagon, the Young Bucks, Hangman Page, Jay Lethal and Christopher Daniels are just a few of those to have made major waves in ROH during the promotion's 20-year lifespan.

Additionally, the game-changing All In 2018 PPV was a production put on in association with Ring of Honor, with that event effectively being the launching point for what would become All Elite Wrestling.

ROH has been on hiatus since last December's Final Battle PPV, and the promotion released all of its contracted stars due to the strains on finances incurred due to the global pandemic. As for Tony Khan's big announcement, it's now been confirmed that Tony will let the cat out of the bag on this week's AEW Dynamite - which is the go-home Dynamite for AEW Revolution.
