AJ Lee revealed that it was Vince McMahon who provoked her 'pipebomb' promo back in 2013 during a live Q&A session covered by Pro Wrestling Unlimited.

After JoJo left the cast of Total Divas, WWE turned to Lee and asked her to fill the role. AJ ultimately turned it down, and that led to McMahon approaching her backstage before Raw shortly afterwards.

Interested why Lee would disregard such an opportunity, Vince told AJ she'd have to explain to everyone why over the live mic that evening.

The result was a stirring promo that was a highlight of the August 26, 2013 episode; lambasting the other women involved in the faux-reality show (including the likes of The Bella Twins and Natalya), AJ said she wanted nothing to do with the tawdry nature of Total Divas because she was a pro wrestler.

Afterwards, Vince again walked up to AJ, hugged her and told the then-Divas Champion how proud he was to see her stick to her guns and for having the confidence to explain why she knocked back the Total Divas gig without much of a heads-up on television.
