AJ Styles Gives Depressing Update On "Challenging" Injury (WWE News)
WWE star AJ Styles updates fans on his injury status. It's not good news.
AJ Styles quoted a fan question on X asking for updates on his injury status. Look away if you're a hardcore supporter of the ex-TNA and current WWE great, because it's not especially pleasing news. The fan asked AJ how he's healing up and if there's any word on a timescale for getting back into the ring. To answer the last bit flat out, no.
Styles replied by saying: "I'll be honest, this injury is challenging".
That doesn't sound too positive, but everyone will have their fingers crossed that the 47 year old workhorse can bounce back and show off some more of the form he did in 2024 pre-injury. Styles got himself into impressive physical shape ('Phenomenal', you might say!) and enjoyed excellent matches with the likes of LA Knight, Cody Rhodes and others last year.
In fact, his retirement tease and resultant WWE Title feud with Rhodes was one of the year's main highlights. Anyone who hasn't watched the event live since it happened would be doing themselves a favour by going back to watch Backlash: France to relive that incredible atmosphere drummed up by the Lyon faithful.
It was a breath-taking scene, one AJ visibly had to fight really hard against to maintain his heel edge. How the man managed to resist flashing a smile is anyone's guess, but he did. That speaks to the dedication Styles has to his craft.
Styles Hasn't Wrestled Since October 2024
That dedication means AJ never phones in any match whether it's a live event or on core programming like Raw and SmackDown. Sadly, going full tilt always carries the risk of injury. Styles was struck down by a nasty ankle injury (later confirmed to be a Lisfranc issue, which affects bones and ligaments smack bang in the middle of one's foot) during his match vs. Carmelo Hayes on the 4 October edition of blue brand fare.
He's been on the bench ever since and it looks like he'll be forced to sit out on WrestleMania 41 season. That, obviously, is a depressing thought for any member of WWE's roster. This is the most lucrative and exciting period of each calendar year, so nobody wants to sit at home and watch killer events like Royal Rumble or miss out on 'Mania's action-packed weekender.
Sadly, Styles doesn't have a choice. He's described the foot injury as "challenging", which might suggest there have been some further complications whilst recuperating. Honestly, it doesn't look like WWE fans will get to see the celebrated in-ring favourite for a while.
Best wishes to AJ as he continues to recover. It'll be great once he's finally back inside the ring doing what he loves, because he's a huge miss for Triple H's active talent pool.
