AJ Styles Vs. Omos Pulled From WWE Raw Due To "Absolutely Horrible" Live Match?

Was P1 vs. Omos pulled due to the pair's MSG stinker at the weekend?

Having formally split up on last week's WWE Raw, it was previously announced how AJ Styles and Omos would do battle on this week's episode of the company's red brand programming.

Instead, despite Styles vs. Omos being advertised at the start of the show, last night's Raw instead saw the Phenomenal One face off with Apollo Crews. That in itself felt a little odd, not least due to how this rejigged bout was first promoted to be Styles vs. Commander Azeez.

While Omos was in attendance in Detroit for Raw, reports surfaced this morning to say he was sent home from the show. No reason has been given for why this decision was made, although Dave Meltzer has speculated that it might be due to Styles and Omos having an "absolutely horrendous" match at WWE's big Boxing Day live show from Madison Square Garden.

Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said:

"The Garden match with AJ and Omos, I was told was absolutely horrible. So it is possible [WWE] decided at the last minute, like, why put a horrible match on TV? So, maybe that's it. Or maybe it's COVID. I don't know. It was a weird thing, the way they handled it, because they announced the match at the start of the show, and then all of a sudden, late in the show, you know, AJ goes, 'Come on out, let's do the match', and he's not there."

For those wondering, Styles was technically the victor at MSG on Boxing Day, picking up a DQ win over Omos.

To date, Omos has only had five televised singles matches since he landed on the main roster - squaring off in super-quick contests against Erik of the Viking Raiders, Riddle (twice), John Morrison, and Randy Orton.

If and when we get AJ Styles vs. Omos on TV remains to be seen, although the belief is that WWE was keen to get this break-up and short rivalry wrapped up in time to put each star on their own respective paths for the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 38.
