Another AEW Original's Contract Expiring Soon?
Contract renewal season is in full flow in AEW. Will this company original score a new deal?
Joey Janela has told Fightful that his contract with All Elite Wrestling expires in May.
As published on Fightful Select, the AEW original says that he likes working for the promotion and wants to stick around. Going forward, his goals include bringing the Tony Khan-helmed company and surging indie group Game Changer Wrestling closer together, building a relationship between the two.
Janela is an important figure for Game Changer, on camera and off. He faces former AEW moonlighter Matt Cardona at The WRLD on GCW's in New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom on 23 January.
Last year saw Janela tell Barstool Sports' Robbie Fox that with his contract running out in May, he "really has to step it up."
2021 also brought rumours that Janela had extended his AEW contract. If Joey is to be believed here, they were unfounded.
Janela was effectively a day-one AEW signing, as it was confirmed he had inked a deal with the promotion in January 2019. He has maintained a steady independent schedule while balancing his AEW obligations, though he has competed primarily on Dark and Dark: Elevation recently. Dynamite's 28 May 2021 episode was his last appearance on television.
