Creative plans may already be in place for this potential new signing in AEW...

AEW MYSTERY MAN is all elite
AEW/WWE

One week removed from Keith Lee making the latest headline-grabbing debut in All Elite Wrestling, it sounds like he may soon be followed by another former WWE wrestler cruelly let go by the market leaders in 2021.

Per Fightful Select, some AEW personnel having mentioned growing talk within the company that Buddy Matthews (the former Murphy) is coming in. Several of these voices claimed that creative ideas have been pitched, while one went as far as saying plans had already been made, though this hasn't been confirmed.

Internal talk of AEW's plan to bring Matthews in has reportedly been going around since January.

This isn't the first time that Buddy's name has been credibly linked with AEW, as Dave Meltzer reported on Tony Khan's apparent interest in the Australian in a July 2021 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Now, it appears the wheels may finally be in motion.

Released from WWE as part of a round of "budget cuts" on 2 June 2021, Matthews resumed his indie career upon his non-compete clause's expiration that September. Working Kazuchika Okada at NJPW's Battle in the Valley event this November stand as his most notable post-WWE match so far.
