Backstage Details On Rey Mysterio Re-Signing With WWE

All the latest on Mysterio's wrestling future.

Rey Mysterio
WWE

"Remove the thought of Rey Mysterio leaving WWE from your head as it isn't going to happen."

This is Dave Meltzer's take on the lucha legend's wrestling future, as transcribed in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Meltzer writes that Mysterio will be staying with WWE. This isn't quite a done deal yet as Mysterio is still to put pen to paper, but it is stated that the deal is "as close to official without confirmation of it being official."

As expected, Rey's son, Dominik, is a big part of him opting to stick around. Dom is currently booked to face Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2020 on 23 August, with the younger Mysterio out for revenge after 'The Monday Night Messiah' took his dad's eyeball out at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules.

The writeup also states that AEW offered Mysterio a contract guaranteeing the same money on a per-match basis, though the WWE deal ended up being more lucrative as it offered more dates. There's no word on exactly how long the new agreement will be for. It should stretch longer than Rey's previous 18-month deal, but won't be one of WWE's favoured five-year mega-contracts.
