Sasha Banks and Naomi remain in WWE limbo. Suspended indefinitely and stripped of their Women's Tag Team Championships during the 20 May episode of SmackDown, the duo haven't appeared onscreen since walking out of that week's Raw show over reported creative concerns.

Before this week, the latest reporting on the subject came from the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, who stated that Naomi and Banks were not being paid while off-screen. There was no word on whether or not WWE would freeze their contracts, thus binding them to the company for longer.

Now, Fightful Select reports that a WWE higher-up has indicated to the outlet that they don't believe the promotion would go as far as freezing contracts during Naomi and Sasha's unpaid suspension. Fightful is working for confirmation on that point.

On top of this, while there were people within WWE who weren't initially in favour of vacating the Women's Tag Team Championships, this quickly emerged as the only real option soon after Banks and Naomi's walkout.

Fightful had no word on when the announced tournament to crown Naomi and Banks' successors as Women's Tag Team Champions may take place. Meltzer, meanwhile, reports that the idea is "dead in the water."
