Backstage Notes From Eric Bischoff's AEW Return

Here's how Eric B from Cody, Wyoming's return went down.

Eric Bischoff
AEW

Eric Bischoff made a surprise appearance on last week's AEW Dynamite, asking a trio of questions to close the Town Hall Meeting featuring Chris Jericho and MJF.

It was the first time the former WCW man had been on AEW television since moderating Jericho and Orange Cassidy's televised debate on 5 August. Easy E has since used his 83 Weeks podcast to talk about the cameo, offering insight into the creative process.

"I took what had been prepared for me in the notes [and] I went, ‘Oh yeah. But if I changed it up this way, it won’t change the meaning of anything," said Bischoff (h/t Fightful for the transcription). "It does the exact same thing. It just kind of makes it feel more tuned-in politically, based on the theme of that segment.’ So I went to Chris and I said, ‘hey, Chris, I got an idea.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, go ahead. That’s what you’re here for. Make it your own.’ I went ‘wow, that’s f***ing cool.’ That’s the way I like to work."

This sounds in-line with what we know of AEW's creative process, where rigidly scripted promos aren't a thing. Interesting to hear that this is extended to special guests as well though.
