Backstage Notes On Penta Winning WWE Money In The Bank 2026 (WWE News)

WWE had other plans for MITB until Penta dazzled against Roman Reigns.

WrestleVotes is reporting that Penta wasn't WWE's first choice to win the men's Money In The Bank ladder match over the weekend. However, the masked man impressed all of the right people opposite top star Roman Reigns on the 14 September edition of Raw in Mexico City.

His performance there vs. Roman turned a lot of heads behind the curtain, and that ultimately led management towards giving Penta the briefcase. On that, WrestleVotes added (during a fan Q&A) that the breakout star "definitely wasn't" supposed to win MITB up until super-recently.

Plans change quickly within WWE though.

Bron Breakker went into Saturday's PLE in New Orleans as the bookies favourite to leave with the case. The Vision member did dominate a lot of the match, and he even sent Je'Von Evans tumbling through the roof of an ambulance; presumably, that spot was written to promote a new toy line or something like that. Just guessing.

It's still unclear whether or not Penta will successfully cash in his chips to become either WWE or World Heavyweight Champion. In theory, the company is yet to make its mind up on that. If they didn't know until recently that Penta was winning MITB, then they probably haven't mapped everything out just yet.

A rematch with Reigns could be cool if he cashes in on the 'OTC'. Alternatively, going after reigning WWE Champ (and concrete heel) Sami Zayn might be a shout. That'd shift Penta on over to SmackDown, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for him.
