Big E's WWE Title win on this week's episode of Raw was met with "universal elation" backstage, reports Fightful Select.

E, who is considered one of the most popular people in the locker room, took the belt by cashing in on Bobby Lashley after the now-former champion's successful defence over Randy Orton. This sparked jubilant scenes in the arena proper, with the crowd erupting and The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods sprinting to the ring to celebrate with their stablemate.

Fightful's report notes that a lot of wrestlers stuck around to watch E get his moment against Lashley. This isn't usually the case, with a lot of talents typically leaving tapings before the show goes off the air.

As far as how the title change came together goes, E was told he'd be cashing in and winning the WWE Championship after being brought to Monday's tapings. WWE had started formulating its plan following Friday's successful episode of SmackDown in Madison Square Garden, shored them up on Saturday, and broke the news on show day.

The Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast's Andrew Zarian had previously reported that WWE originally intended to have E cash in on one of its 2021 Draft shows.
