Backstage Update On Jeff Cobb's AEW Contract Status

Where does the AEW Debutant stand after Dynamite?

Hawaiian powerhouse Jeff Cobb debuted on last night's episode of AEW Dynamite. Debuted as Chris Jericho's Inner Circle "bounty hunter" earlier in the night, he marched down to lay Jon Moxley out with his stunning Tour of the Islands finisher to close the show, and will now face Mox one-on-one on next week's show.

A huge, surprising move, but Cobb hasn't actually signed an AEW contract.

This is according to PWInsider, who write that he is working for the company as a free agent. Cobb is currently a true freelancer after the expiration of his old Ring Of Honor contract but is still wrestling for the Sinclair Broadcasting-owned organisation on a verbal deal.

PWInsider's writeup adds that AEW contacted Cobb directly to organise his appearance. This presumably means there was no dialogue with ROH.

It'll be interesting to see how Jeff's AEW stint pans out: is it a short-term deal, or is he here for a run? His style inhumanly powerful style can be spectacular when he's in full flow and the former Olympian definitely brings something different so the roster, so a full-time tilt could be lots of fun.

Whatever the case, at least we have next week's Moxley bout to look forward to.
