Mike Johnson from PWInsider Elite (via @WrestlePurists on X) has stated that WWE want to make John Cena's retirement match an action-packed, surprise-fuelled festive treat fans never forget. In short, the company is working on some shocks that'd make Cena's bout with Gunther and grand farewell unmissable/memorable forever.

There's no word on exactly what they're tossing around the place creatively backstage, but all of this is rather interesting. Cena's retirement tour has already witnessed a few surprises. For example, his heel turn at Elimination Chamber in March left everyone stunned. Then, John won the WWE Title from Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 before dropping everything and reverting back to his babyface act.

Sprinkle in R-Truth's return at Money In The Bank, Brock Lesnar's comeback at SummerSlam (then his mauling of Cena at Wrestlepalooza) and more. Cena's retirement year hasn't been outstanding by any means, but there's been plenty to talk about at least.

Is one final shocker coming this weekend at Saturday Night's Main Event in Washington, DC? It looks like that's how Triple H wants to play things, but recent reports indicate that both Hunter and Cena are locked in talks about whether or not the retiring star opens Saturday's show or main events.

WWE would prefer John to go on last, but he reckons some spotlight should be shared with NXT talents working the card alongside him.

This is just one writer spitballing, but the surprises being discussed could include major returns, Cena tapping out to Gunther during his last match, or various legends making cameos to help him vanquish the 'Ring General'.
