Backstage Update On Relationship Between AEW EVPs
In the wake of Cody Rhodes' departure, new details on how AEW's EVPs are getting along.
All Elite Wrestling's various Executive Vice Presidents were believed to be on better terms than they had been for a while prior to Cody Rhodes' departure from the promotion, reports the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer.
While discord between Rhodes, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks had been reported several times in the past, including a definitive period where Meltzer says they "weren't talking", things appeared to have changed recently. As recently as last week, the group were apparently working on future projects.
Now, Cody is out of AEW, and one of Meltzer's sources used the word "heartbroken" when describing the situation.
That the EVPs' power had diminished by December 2019 is widely documented, with AEW president Tony Khan recalibrating his creative structure to take on a bigger role. Per PWTorch's Wade Keller, the Bucks and Omega were happy in their EVP positions, with their relative creative latitude, though he believes that Rhodes wanted to be more involved in the process.
Keller also notes that the other EVPs were surprised to hear of Rhodes' AEW departure, given that they had overcome their tension.
WWE is expected to pursue Rhodes as a free agent, if it hasn't already.
