Having been out of action since injuring his ankle earlier this month, there’s now an update on when Elias is expected to make his WWE return to in-ring action.

Via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Elias is scheduled to be back in action by the end of October. As teased on this past week’s episode of SmackDown Live, it’s believed that the Drifter is due to embark on a rivalry with Chad Gable.

With how WWE often uses Elias in pre-taped video segments or in a non-physical fashion, the feud with Gable could realistically continue to play out even before Elias is cleared to wrestle again. Of course, any physicality would have to be held off on until he was cleared by doctors, but there’s still a lot that WWE can do between Elias and Gable until that point.

If you remember, Elias had to be replaced by Shane McMahon in the King of the Ring semi-finals due to this ankle injury. And who was he due to face in that semi-final showdown? Why, that would be Chad Gable.

While Elias has been on the sidelines, Gable lost to Baron Corbin in the final of the King of the Ring and has since continued to tangle with King Corbin on WWE programming.
