Best (And Worst) Of NXT 2016
1. Superstar Of The Year: Samoa Joe
When it comes to main event stars, NXT only really had three for the entire year of 2016. At the start, it was all Finn Bálor. His Demon King persona kept fans enamored and his in ring ability was second to none. Then he passed the torch to Shinsuke Nakamura, whose body of work in his short time in America speaks for itself. His English still needs some work, but his Strong Style speaks to the WWE fans in the best ways. Both of the men were great in 2016, but there was only one man who spent the entire year in the main event scene, and that was the Samoan Submission Machine.
Out of the four Takeover specials, Samoa Joe main evented all of them, two of which as NXT Champion. His turn as the hungry challenger was great when he was feuding with Finn, but his animalistic destruction of the entire roster when it was himself versus Shinsuke was grade A awesome. No lie, this is some of his greatest work as a wrestler since his early TNA days when he was fighting for all the belts with Kurt Angle. Samoa Joe is by far the MVP of NXT for 2016 - his ring work, promos, and overall presence was something to admire for a show that shouldn't be holding seventeen year veterans. Hopefully WWE finds room on their main rosters for him - that kind of talent shouldn't be held back any longer.
