With many fans expecting Edge to compete at this year’s SummerSlam, Jon Alba now has an update on that very topic.

As per Alba on Living the Gimmick, not only is the Rated-R Superstar due to wrestle at SummerSlam, but he’s due to be positioned as a babyface up against a SmackDown talent.

It’s yet to be confirmed exactly who the WWE Hall of Famer will be facing at SummerSlam at this stage, although expect that to be established shortly after Edge makes his return to WWE TV on the 16 July episode of SmackDown.

That return is nicely timed to coincide with WWE’s first show back on the road, and that episode – which will emanate from Houston, Texas’ Toyota Center – will also feature the return of Sasha Banks.

The last time fans saw Edge was back at WrestleMania 37, where the Ultimate Opportunist and Daniel Bryan were stacked and pinned by Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the main event of ‘Mania’s second night.

Previous reports claim that WWE is looking to go all out and make this year’s SummerSlam a WrestleMania-level spectacle. Rumours suggest that Reigns could be facing a returning John Cena at that show, while other speculation throws up Brock Lesnar returning to battle Bobby Lashley, and possibly even the long-awaited return of Becky Lynch. As such, it seems only right to expect a legend like Edge to be utilised in a big-time match.

SummerSlam 2021 takes place from Paradise, Nevada’s Allegiant Stadium on Saturday 21 August.
