'Superstar' Bill Dundee has passed away.

In some sad news, the legendary 'Superstar' Bill Dundee has passed away at the age of 82.

Taking to Facebook, Bill's son Jamie - who wrestling fans may know as J.C. Ice of the PG-13 tag team - announced that Superstar passed away at 3:30 am Sunday. He had been battling dementia in recent years.

Born in Scotland and raised in Australia, Bill Dundee - real name William Cruickshanks - entered the professional wrestling business in the early 1960s and would arrive in the United States in the '70s, initially as a tag team with George Barnes, having success in Memphis and winning the NWA Mid-America Southern Tag Team Titles for the first time in 1975.

Dundee famously had a decades-long on-off rivalry with Jerry Lawler, with the pair spending years either teaming together or feuding against one another, often over the Southern Heavyweight Championship. Away from his time in Continental and the USWA, Superstar would compete for the likes of Championship Wrestling from Florida, Mid-Atlantic, Central States, the AWA, and World Class. He'd also turn up in WCW as Sir William in 1993, serving as the on-screen manager of Lord Steven Regal.

Bill Dundee would remarkably remain semi-active right the way through until 2019, and the final match of his career came in December of that year at the Bobby Eaton: A Night of Appreciation event, where he'd be on the losing side of an eight-man tag match.

Superstar continued to make sporadic appearances in recent years, even despite his ill health, including being honoured in person on the latest episode of Memphis Wrestling, which aired the day before his passing.
