Brian Pillman Jr. returns to All Elite Wrestling to face Shawn Spears on this week's episode of Dark (8 July), the promotion has confirmed.

The bout was confirmed yesterday, when AEW made its usual tweet announcing the Dark lineup ahead of Wednesday's show. Orange Cassidy, Scorpio Sky, the Lucha Brothers, and Dark Order will also be in action.

Pillman Jr.'s appearance is particularly notable as he is currently contracted to MLW but was shown in the crowd during last week's episode of Dynamite. The announcers didn't point his presence out, though jumping to AEW was immediately speculated. Dave Meltzer has reported that MLW took no issue with Pillman Jr. showing up on camera.

The 26-year-old has wrestled for AEW before, having appeared in the first Casino Battle Royale at Double Or Nothing 2019.

Pillman Jr. is seemingly working to secure his MLW release at the moment. A screenshot originally published by indie wrestler Saieve Al Sabah shows Brian DMing Al Sabah for advice on how to get out, having had his first request turned down:-

Al Sabah recently asked to be let go from MLW after learning of the promotion's ties to Chasyn Rance, a registered sex offender.
