Hikaru Shida beat Tay Conti on Dynamite, leaving her with one obvious challenger...

It looks like Britt Baker is next in line to challenge for Hikaru Shida's AEW Women's World Championship.

Last night's episode of Dynamite saw Shida overcome the fast-rising Tay Conti, showing increased aggression in a bout that concluded with the champion nailing her Katana kick to the head. This was her 8th defence in 333 days with the strap.

Shida had little time to celebrate. Baker's music hit soon after the bell and out came the good doctor, with the women's rankings appearing on the big screen. Conti's defeat meant she slid down the ladder. Britt, who'd been sitting at number two, took the top spot, and gloated at Shida before leaving the scene.

AEW is yet to confirm the booking, though Shida is without an opponent for the upcoming Double Or Nothing 2021 pay-per-view. Baker would be the obvious choice for that spot.

If it happens, this will be the first time Baker has fought for the AEW Women's World Title since competing in a four-way on Dynamite's 1 January 2020 episode. Inaugural champion Riho successfully defended against Britt, Shida, and Nyla Rose that night.
