Having been released by WWE last month as part of one of the company's recent rounds of mass cuts, it's been announced that Buddy Murphy's first post-WWE match will see him lock horns with AEW's Brian Cage.

It was Cage who broke this news, taking to Instagram to reveal he'll be facing Murphy for Battleground Championship Wrestling.

This match will take place on Saturday 18 September from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As it happens, that venue is the former Viking Hall, Alhambra Arena and Asylum Arena - or, as wrestling fans know it, the ECW Arena.

BCW has been on hiatus during the pandemic, and this 18 September show will be the company's return to action. With tickets ranging from $25 - $50, the event will also feature an appearance from Matt Hardy, Aiden English vs. nZo, Amber Nova vs. Leila Grey, Little Guido vs. Raven's Last Agent of the Apocalypse, Gunn Club vs. Bear Country, and KC Navarro vs. Ray Jaz.

As for Buddy Murphy, he's recently talked up how he'll soon reveal his new ring name. The former WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Raw Tag Team Champion and NXT Tag Team Champion previously worked as Matt Silva before signing with WWE in 2013.

Murphy's 90-day non-compete clause is set to expire on 31 August.
