Cain Velasquez, who basically vanished following his embarrassing defeat to Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel, has been booked for an appearance at WWE Royal Rumble 2020.

According to Dave Meltzer, writing in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion is already down for WWE's first pay-per-view of 2020, which takes place from Houston's Minute Maid Park on 26 January.

Meltzer did not provide any further details on Velasquez's potential role at the event. Perhaps, given his desire to work a luchador style as seen in AAA, Cain will come back as the next incarnation of Sin Cara? More likely he'll be given a strong run in the Rumble match, that crucially won't expose any of his weaknesses.

Velasquez, who debuted on SmackDown's FOX premiere on 4 October, reportedly required major reconstructive knee surgery ahead of his match with Brock Lesnar, which would have seen him out of action for at least six months. The fact he is set to appear at the Rumble confirms he has not yet went under the knife.
