Charlotte Flair has won the 2020 Women's Royal Rumble Match by last eliminating Shayna Baszler.

Author's Note:

WWE is intent on building Charlotte Flair as the talismanic, Hulk Hogan-esque figure of Women's wrestling, and this initiative was furthered on Sunday night. Flair is incredibly talented, and entered a hell of a shift here, but it felt like the sort of uninspiring, missed opportunity that defined the last decade. Charlotte Flair is so made at this point that it has effectively become a parody. Those aren't just the words of your writer; Big E has said things to that effect in TV canon by gently mocking her accelerated title win legacy. Should Charlotte not challenge NXT Champion Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania, as things stand, the prospective matches - versus Becky Lynch/Bayley/Lacey Evans - feel very familiar. Flair wrestled all three women on a number of occasions in 2019.

It was, nonetheless, a very good Rumble match, though the decision to have Flair last go over Baszler felt strange. She is now 50/50 in main roster appearances before even joining it officially, which is a fairly troubling omen.

But yet, WWE's triumph last night has bred renewed optimism, so at last, let's see where this goes, eh?
