Christian is officially retired from WWE's active roster, as confirmed by Jerry Lawler on commentary during the final Monday Night Raw of the year. Despite having a year left on his contract, Christian is considered retired within the company, due to his string of injuries and concussions. When it comes to serious health issues, the WWE does not want to take any gambles. Concussions in particular are a major concern, and wrestler safety always has to come first. With a history of concussions, and at age 41, it made sense for Christian to stop wrestling. The decision has perhaps been official for some time. Christian has barely been seen in the past year on WWE television, and there was never any indications of WWE planning to bring him back. Even now, with a year on his contract, there doesn't appear to be any plans to utilise him. He'd make a good commentator or trainer, but that decision would come down to his own desire and the desire of WWE. Another option, if he wishes to continue in wrestling, would be to sign with TNA or an indie group next year. On a reduced schedule, he would be fairly safe. As for his injury record and concussions, these considerations are much less of a concern to the minor league promoters. Someone would book him in a heartbeat and he'd never be subjected to medical testing like WWE's program. However, you'd have to suspect that Christian is happy to walk away from the ring at this point. He's in his forties and has achieved everything he set out to do in wrestling. He's a very rich man and enjoyed over a decade as a prominent figure in one of the most famed eras of professional wrestling. Fans will never forget his formative years, tearing it up in TLC bouts with his partner Edge. He went on to singles success in the latter 2000's, winning the World Heavyweight Championship on two occasions. There's nothing left to earn or prove by staying in pro wrestling, and he's arguably fourteen years removed from his peak. A full time move into acting is a distinct possibility, as it is a field he worked in sporadically from 2007 onwards.
