Adam Cole's AEW injury is legitimate, reports Fightful Select.

Hitting the ring with a large cast around his ankle, Cole stated during this week's Dynamite that he had broken his ankle, necessitating surgery. This put him out of Sunday's AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view, where he and MJF were due to defend the ROH World Tag Team Championships against The Righteous.

MJF's new rival, 'Switchblade' Jay White, was jumped by an unknown masked group (the ringleader of which was clad in MJF's devil mask) to close Dynamite, intensifying existing speculation that Cole's injury was a work.

It is not.

Fightful states that the word from inside of AEW is that Cole is legitimately heading for surgery, sidelining him for an indefinite period of time. Cole was reportedly seen requiring help while travelling, using crutches to get around, meaning that if he wasn't injured, "everyone else isn't in on it."

AEW had hoped Cole had suffered an ankle sprain when jumping from the ramp to the floor on 20 September's Dynamite show. This doesn't appear the case.

Fightful states that while there is no word on whether Cole will stay on AEW television via vignettes, he isn't expected to appear on Dynamite or Collision in a live capacity.
