In 2011 we had the 'Summer of Punk' which was one of the most thrilling periods of the new WWE decade. It was that rare time when you witness the birth of a star, CM Punk emerging from his epic 'Pipe Bomb' promo and match of the year with John Cena to dominate the next two years. Following on from a 434 day WWE Title reign we witnessed the Punk legacy extend further as he wrestled top stars such as The Rock, Undertaker and Brock Lesnar in 2013. Things didn't look all too bad for CM Punk as 2014 started. You would have expected him to have had a major match at Wrestlemania 30, similar in card position to last year with Undertaker. That would have led into contract negotiations to extend his deal past the July expiry. What no one expected was what actually occurred Punk sensationally walking out of the company at the end of January. Just when you thought things were finished for the star, over the weekend came the news we had all hoped for. According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, a credibile source (a very top industry star) has said Punk will 100% be returning in Chicago on Monday Night Raw. That didn't happen. The Chicago Raw has came and gone without any CM Punk return. To call it a missed opportunity is an understatement. The company and the star could have collaborated to create something bigger than 2011, from which Punk could have became the biggest star in the company this year.
