Since winning his feud with MJF, CM Punk has repeatedly given fans the "I want the title" gesture as he climbs the singles rankings. But Wednesday, Punk came face-to-face with the man who actually holds the title he covets.

After winning a hard-fought match against Dustin Rhodes, Punk backed up the ramp and waved his hands across his midsection once again, but AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page emerged to face off with his potential challenger. The staredown only lasted a few moments, but it was more than enough to whet everyone's appetite.

Page dispatched with his most recent challenger Adam Cole on Rampage last week, and Punk has been steadily climbing the rankings, entering last week at #5 and knocking off then-fourth-ranked Penta Oscuro. His win over Rhodes should put on a trajectory to intersect with Hangman and the world title just in time for AEW Double or Nothing, which is slated for 29 May.

A Punk versus Page world title match seemed like a fever dream just one year ago, and now it could be mere weeks from reality. What a crazy world.
