CM Punk knew exactly what he was doing when he dropped an All Elite Wrestling reference while working his regular commentary gig for Cage Fury Fighting Championships this past weekend.

With the 42-year-old widely expected to return to professional wrestling on this week's episode of AEW Rampage (20 August), the former WWE Champion said fighter Lucas Hoffman was "looking All Elite right now" during a fight with Harvey Mardis. This came after Punk's fellow announcer noted Hoffman was "returning to his wrestling" in the fight.

This happened on the same weekend that Punk's apparent comeback was mentioned during an NFL pre-season game between the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.

Subtitled 'The First Dance,' this week's episode of Rampage takes place in Punk's Chicago, Illinois hometown. AEW has actively teased his arrival on several occasions, with Darby Allin dropping the most notable hint on the night the show was announced, referencing "the best in the world." MJF then paraphrased Punk's legendary pipe bomb promo later on the same show.

If Punk does return to wrestling this week, it'll be the first time he has been active in the sport since his acrimonious WWE split in early 2014.
