CM Punk Wants LEGENDARY Opponent For AEW Return
Returning AEW star CM Punk has an idea up his sleeve for the big comeback run.
CM Punk has indicated that he wants to face his era-defining Ring Of Honor rival, Samoa Joe, when he returns to AEW.
Fightful Select reports that Punk is "increasingly interested in working with Samoa Joe." There is currently no word on whether or not a one-off match or extended storyline was pitched, nor has there been confirmation of whether or not the match will happen, though AEW sources are staying tight-lipped on matters relating to Collision.
Expected to launch in mid-June, Collision is the touted name for AEW's new Saturday brand, of which the returning Punk is anticipated being a centrepiece.
Fightful's report also touched on rumours of Punk working with Chris Jericho upon coming back. A program between the two has been pitched, though Punk has also shown a desire to work with Joe.
Punk and Joe were legendary rivals in Ring Of Honor's most acclaimed era, with their 2004 trilogy instrumental in establishing the cult promotion at the forefront of the independent wrestling zeitgeist. They have not shared a ring since August 2005, however, when they were participants in a four-way ROH World Title eliminator.
