Colin Delaney Returns On WWE SmackDown
Out with the Ellsworth, in with the Delaney.
James Ellsworth might be gone from WWE, but his precursor made a not-so-triumphant return to SmackDown last night.
Former ECW jobber Colin Delaney became The Bludgeon Brothers' latest victim in a quick squash match, as Harper and Rowan made short work of him and partner Joe Monroe, putting the duo away in just 45 seconds.
Such bouts have become the norm for the former Wyatt Family men, but Delaney's appearance came out of nowhere. Signed in December 2007, his character arc was almost identical to Ellsworth's, with Colin racking up countless losses before developing a strong sense of delusion, turning on mentor Tommy Dreamer. He was released as part of budget cuts in August 2008, and hasn't appeared since.
Delaney was interviewed for WWE's YouTube channel after the show:-
Fans may not have recognised the former ECW man if WWE hadn't drawn attention to him. Delaney looks nothing like the scrawny jobber that we knew nine years ago, having chopped his hair, grown a beard, and put on some muscle mass.
Last night was likely a one-off, as there's no indication as to whether or not WWE intend on using Colin again in the future.
