Conor McGregor Preparing To Take On Khabib/Ferguson At UFC 249?
His 'season' has only just begun, but Mystic Mac isn't messing around.
According to Dana White, Conor McGregor is fully prepared to take on either Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 - should one of them drop out of their scheduled Lightweight title clash.
The Lightweight division's two biggest hitters look finally set to come to blows in April at UFC 249. However, Mystic Mac isn't fully convinced they'll both make it to the dance and - based on the history the pair have with dropping out of this super-fight - you can't argue with McGregor's logic.
Dana White clarified McGregor's intentions when he spoke to ESPN this week, stating, "Conor believes that Khabib [Nurmagomedov] vs. Tony Ferguson will not happen." He even reasoned with the approach by saying "we’ve tried to do this fight many, many times. Conor believes it won’t happen. Conor wanted to do this fight at 170 because he wants to turn right around and jump right in and fight Khabib if that fight doesn’t happen."
McGregor has set out his stall for his comeback year and reclaiming the Lightweight title ranks very highly on his list of priorities. You have to imagine that he'd prefer to take the belt from Khabib and avenge the smashing he received at UFC 229. Yet, if Ferguson did become the new champ in Brooklyn, McGregor definitely wouldn't hesitate to sign on the dotted line and we'd have ourselves another fresh showdown to sink our teeth into.
