In some unfortunate news, it appears that AEW star Kota Ibushi is set for another spell on the sidelines.

Last night's AEW Collision tapings saw Ibushi face off with Josh Alexander in a match that was eventually deemed a countout win for Alexander after the Golden Star fell off the top rope to the outside of the ring. From various posts on social media from those in attendance at this taping, it appeared that Kota's leg gave out, and he was unable to make it back into the ring to break the referee's count.

Kenny Omega came out to fight off Alexander and his Don Callis Family cohorts, and the house lights were then dimmed as medical personnel tended to Kota Ibushi, before the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion was carried to the back on a stretcher. While it's unconfirmed as of this writing, PWInsider noted that there was talk backstage that Kota had broken his femur.

At the end of the taping, AEW President Tony Khan came out to thank the fans, and also got an "Ibushi" chant started as a way of sending best wishes to Kota.

This is the latest in a long line of injuries for Kota Ibushi in recent years, with him notably suffering a dislocated shoulder against Kazuchika Okada in the final of the 2021 G1 Climax and breaking both ankles against Naomichi Marufuji at NOAH The New Year in January 2024. After nearly two years away from AEW programming, Ibushi returned this summer ahead of Forbidden Door, where he was part of the main event Lights Out steel cage match.

From all of us here at WhatCulture Wrestling, all the best to Kota Ibushi with this latest injury and his road to recovery.
