WWE officials reportedly came very close to putting the WWE Title on Daniel Bryan last night at No Way Out but decided to continue the direction they were going in with CM Punk as WWE Champion. Punk went over in the Triple Threat main event by pinning Kane who was distracted by AJ Lee being knocked off the apron during the finish. This was the second pay-per-view in a row where WWE came within a whisker of a title change after some officials lobbied for Bryan's push to continue by beating Punk at last month's Over The Limit pay-per-view. As we heard a couple of weeks ago, the current plan for WWE SummerSlam is for a WWE Title showdown between CM Punk and Big Show, so as of right now Punk is at least keeping the title for the next two months. The only other match set in stone for SummerSlam is Triple H vs Brock Lesnar, possibly with McMahon and Laurinaitis in their respective corners but with McMahon such a high ratings performer right now they may go with a Mr. McMahon vs John Laurinaitis match.
