In a new interview, Davey Boy Smith Jr. has revealed that he’s been in talks with WWE about a return to the company in some form or fashion.

Speaking to Metro UK, Davey Jr. explained how there has been talks of him going to NXT or NXT UK, while SmackDown could even be a possibility.

“There’s been quite a bit of interest and a little bit of back-and-forth talk with myself and the company. I think that the plan – or what they were hoping – was for me to come to NXT UK. But unfortunately, right now because of COVID, those doors are kind of locked. We’ll see. We’re discussing and talking. I can’t exactly say anything for sure, but there’ve been talks.”

Smith added:

“There has been interest in me going to NXT down here in Orlando. I live down here in Tampa, Florida, so I’ve just been feeling things out, trying to get a lay of the land, so to speak.”

With both AEW and Ring of Honor believed to have interest in Davey Boy Smith Jr., the three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion explained how his father, the British Bulldog, being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame means it’s a “good idea” to return to WWE – citing how he could even join his cousin Natalya on the SmackDown brand.

In terms of talent he’d like to face if just such a return materialises, Karrion Kross, Timothy Thatcher and NXT Champion Finn Bálor were three names refenced by Smith.

Under the names of D.H. Smith and Harry Smith, the 35-year-old was previously in the WWE system from 2006 until 2011, signing with the company at only 20 years of age. That tenure saw the third generation talent becoming a two-time Tag Team Champion alongside Tyson Kidd as the Hart Dynasty.

Since departing WWE, the real-life Harry Smith has taken on both the Davey Boy Smith Jr. and British Bulldog Jr. names as he’s spent impressive tenures in the likes of New Japan Pro Wrestling and Major League Wrestling.

This coming Saturday sees the legit tough Davey Boy Smith Jr. taking on Tankman for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport promotion. After that though, it remains to be seen whether a return to WWE could be on the cards for the star.
