Details On How The First AEW Champion Will Be Crowned
Double Or Nothing will be pivotal in determining AEW's first champion.
Double Or Nothing, the first pay-per-view to take place under the All Elite Wrestling banner, goes down this Saturday night (25 May), and it looks like the event will have major ramifications with regards to the still-to-be-revealed AEW Championship.
British comedian Jack Whitehall made a major contendership announcement on the latest episode of The Road to Double or Nothing last night:-
Per the video, the AEW World Championship will be contested between the winner of Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega's main event and whoever prevails in the Casino Battle Royale, which takes place on Saturday's Buy In pre-show.
There are currently four open spots in said Battle Royale, with the following wrestlers already confirmed: Sonny Kiss, Brandon Cutler, Ace Romero, Glacier, Brian Pillman Jr., Sunny Daze, MJF, Joey Janela, Dustin Thomas, Billy Gunn, Jimmy Havoc, Michael Nakazawa, Jungle Boy, Isiah Kassidy, Marq Quen, Luchasaurus, and Shawn Spears.
There's currently no word on which event the inaugural title bout will take place. A bout between the Omega/Jericho and Adam Page/PAC winners for the top belt had previously been rumoured, but PAC's withdrawal from the promotion has clearly caused a rewrite. It'll be interesting to see which of the Battle Royale participants steps up in his place.
