A reference made by Tony Khan during his big ROH announcement could have major implications for AEW!

During the groundbreaking announcement that he had purchased Ring Of Honor, AEW President Tony Khan dropped a line that may offer some insight into his intentions moving forward.

“Shane’s not here. There’s no Shane, it’s me,” Khan said, referencing the era-defining moment when Shane McMahon appeared on the final WCW Nitro in 2001 in a setup to the WWF Invasion storyline.

Could Tony Khan have similar plans for ROH invading AEW?

According to The Wrestling Observer, ROH television tapings are scheduled to resume in April following their Supercard Of Honor XV PPV, meaning the two promotions will continue operating independently, at least for the time being.

It is impossible not to see the similarities between Khan's approach to ROH and Vince McMahon's initial intentions for WCW, which was originally slated to become its own brand underneath the WWF banner (before those plans were scrapped due to poor audience reception).

While there is a lot of speculation on how ROH will exist moving forward, Khan has stated he intends to produce new content under the ROH banner and "keep the legacy of the promotion alive and with the utmost respect.”

May the speculation continue.
