A two-time former World Heavyweight Champion, the real-life Nic Nemeth had been with WWE since 2004, initial starting in the Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental arm.

The Ohio native would debut on main roster television in September of the following year, initially as the golf caddie of Chavo Guerrero Jr., before re-debuting the following January as part of the Spirit Squad.

After the Spirit Squad returned to OVW and went their separate ways, Nemeth - as Dolph Ziggler - was easily the breakout star of the faction, embarking on a run that saw him win the Intercontinental Title six times, the United States Title twice, have four reigns as a Tag Team Champion, become Mr. Money in the Bank, and also win the NXT Title - in addition to those two stints as World Heavyweight Champion.
