While WWE announced ahead of time that WWE Champion Drew McIntyre would appear on tonight’s Raw to address the news that the Scot has tested positive for COVID-19, what we didn’t necessarily expect was to hear McIntyre respond to the challenge laid down by Bill Goldberg on last week’s red brand offering.

The early stages of tonight’s Raw saw Drew thankfully reveal that, despite his positive test result, he has zero virus symptoms. Then, during Raw’s second hour, WWE aired another pre-recorded video where McIntyre agreed to face Goldberg at this month’s Royal Rumble PPV.

Claiming that Da Man’s actions last week – where he said the Scottish Psychopath lacked respect for WWE legends, before then shoving the WWE Champ on his ass – not only let Drew as a fan down, but let Goldberg’s legacy down, the one-time Chosen One detailed how the WWE Championship is the one prize that’s forever alluded Bill.

Comparing Goldberg facing Drew McIntyre as like current Goldberg challenging prime Goldberg, McIntyre accepted the WCW icon’s challenge – and the pair will battle for the WWE Championship at the 31 January PPV.

Goldberg has obviously had success in WWE, but McIntyre is technically correct. During his first WWE run, the former NFL player won the World Heavyweight Championship, while more recent years have seen Goldberg win the Universal Championship on two occasions.
