A significant angle played out in NXT's Cruiserweight division on last night's show, as champion El Hijo del Fantasma unmasked to reveal his new identity and stable.

Drake Maverick, felled in the Cruiserweight Title tournament by Fantasma last week, approached the champ looking for another shot. The masked assailants from the recent kidnapping storyline then emerged from the locker-room. Fantasma and Maverick went back-to-back, as if they were about to fend the duo off, before the champion turned around, put Drake down, and triple-teamed him with his new allies.

Those allies are, of course, Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde, who had previously been abducted in the parking lot. Fantasma revealed his new ring name as Santos Escobar.

The kidnapping storyline was supposed inspired by the Symbionese Liberation Army, who kidnapped Patty Hearst in the 1970s, indoctrinating her into her group.

Escobar tweeted the following after the show:-

The NXT Cruiserweight Champion has previously unmasked in his native Mexico, losing an AAA Triplemania XXVI Luchas de Apuestas match to LA Park (also featuring Pentagon Jr. and Psycho Clown) in August 2018. He had barely started his scheduled in-ring promo before Maverick's interruption last night.
