This is not the news El Hijo Del Vikingo fans wanted to hear.

The popular high-flyer suffered a nasty ACL injury in June and went under the knife for surgery in July. Hopes had been high that Vikingo was well on the road to recovery, but he's experienced another setback. As reported by Fightful, El Hijo himself posted on social media with an unfortunate update.

Via Instagram, the AAA star said: "Unfortunately, tomorrow Mr. HDLV will undergo another knee surgery. Thank you all for your support".

Yes, this is the second surgery in a matter of months, which doesn't sound great. It also doesn't sound like we'll be seeing Vikingo grace rings anytime soon. He'd worked a AAA Cruiserweight Title bout vs. Rey Fenix on the 3 July edition of SmackDown (taped on 29 June) before taking time off to get surgery and heal up.

As a knock on effect, El Hijo also had to vacate the AAA Latin American Championship and face missing an extended period. The timing couldn't have been worse, because Vikingo was just starting to bed in on WWE's NXT brand whilst juggling that with his work in Mexico.

WWE ran an angle on the 30 June episode of NXT that saw the recently-released prospect Keanu Carver injure Vikingo. That was booked to explain why the flyer would be off television shortly thereafter. In September, El Hijo provided a more positive update by telling fans that doctors were happy with his recovery, so this latest injury is obviously a hammer blow to the guy.

Fingers crossed he recovers ASAP.
